In our private Music school we are aware that music theory is important, but always adapted from to the individual - both in terms of quantity and the way it is interpreted. For younger children, it is introduced through play and practice; for older children, it is linked to what they play. We always take into account the pupil's prior knowledge, age and goals, so that theory does not become a burden, but a tool for understanding music. We don't overdo it, but we don't leave it out - because it is theory that helps the pupil to play not only with the fingers, but also with the head and the heart.

Many people still believe that music theory stifles creativity - that it sets rules and boundaries within which there is no room for expression. But the opposite is true.
